How a Norwegian Parking Operator Prevented Unpaid Entry from Shared Access Cards
GV-Cloud Access provides centralized management and controlled card reuse across 13 parking sites
The PrOBLEM
When One Membership Card Was Being Shared by Multiple Vehicles
A member swipes an access card. The barrier opens. The vehicle enters. Then the card is passed back outside — and a second driver enters without a paid membership.
The barrier was functioning correctly. It received a valid credential and opened. But the operator was losing revenue: one paid membership was providing entry to multiple vehicles across multiple sites.
The Challenge
Operational Hurdles to Solve
Stopping Unpaid Entry
Membership cards could be shared between vehicles. This created ongoing revenue leakage.
Membership-Based Entry
Vehicles were required to validate membership at entry. Exits remained unrestricted to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Managing Distributed Sites Remotely
On-site visits added time and labor costs. This increased operational overhead.
The SOLUTION
GV-Cloud Access Deployed Across 13 Sites
A local system integrator deployed GV-Cloud Access, replacing fragmented local equipment with a single browser-based platform. The operator can now manage every parking location from one centralized interface.
Remote Log Review
Access event logs available from any browser, any time
Cloud Configuration
Adjust access settings without visiting the site
Remote Firmware Updates
Push controller updates remotely across all 13 locations
Remote No Local PC Required
Reduce on-site hardware dependency at each facility
KeY FEATURES
Lock Card Time: Preventing Credential Sharing
A configurable lock period prevents the same credential from being reused immediately after entry. This helps ensure that one membership cannot be shared across multiple vehicles.
Why It Matters
GeoVision introduced Lock Card Time to address membership card sharing. Once a card or PIN is used, it remains unavailable until the configured lock period expires.
The Deployment
Hardware & Platform at 13 Norwegian Sites
Built for Outdoor Conditions
IP66-rated readers were selected to withstand Norway's demanding weather conditions and provide reliable performance at exposed parking entrances year round.
The single-door controller format kept deployment simple, with one unit per site connected to a centralized cloud platform.
RESULTS
Simplifying Operations Across Every Site
Card Sharing Stopped
Lock Card Time prevents immediate credential reuse, closing the revenue gap caused by shared membership cards.
Centralized Management
All 13 sites managed through one cloud platform — event logs, settings, and firmware updates handled remotely.
Fewer Site Visits
Routine support tasks resolved remotely, reducing unnecessary travel time and labor costs for the installer.
No Local PC Dependency
On-site hardware requirements reduced, simplifying long-term maintenance across the distributed network.
Customer Feedback
"The anti-passback solution implemented for this project is working just as we hoped. In addition, the GeoVision equipment installed has performed exceptionally well, even in the tough conditions here in Norway. We are also very happy with the support received throughout the project."

Access Control That Understands Real-World Use
When access cards are tied to paid memberships, repeated credential use is both an access control and a revenue problem. This project required the system to understand how a card was being used, not just whether it was valid.
Centralized Cloud Management
Distributed sites supported remotely, reducing the need for technician visits.
Lock Card Time
One valid card can no longer immediately open the gate for a second unpaid vehicle.
Fits How Sites Operate
The solution was shaped around the operator’s actual workflow, not adapted from a generic template.
