Hsinchu and Taitung Police Fight Crime with GeoVision Plate Recognition Systems
In response to a recent spike in crime, Hsinchu and Taitung police in Taiwan have undertaken security measures to enforce surveillance on main roads and major facilities access. It is important that the police track suspicious cars immediately right after a crime happens. To supplement police officers on patrol and to improve surveillance efficiency, the HPD and TPD have employed GeoVision License Plate Recognition (GV-LPR) Systems on high-traffic roads and intersections. Now officers can access the real-time video feeds of vehicles and license plates from a command center.
The GeoVision LPR systems are being used at the police command center because of its superior image quality, high recognition rate, and the capability of 24-7 continuous monitoring. Cameras installed on each high-traffic public areas will capture car images and their license plates. The videos will be sent to command center and proceed with recognition in real-time.
|

The center management function in the GV-LPR systems can look for suspicious cars, vehicles with unidentified plates, and stolen cars passing through roads. When video feeds come in on the monitor, recognition messages with camera location, captured time, license numbers, and suspicious cars reference will display on the monitor at the same time. If the officers in command center see a suspicious-car message pops up with the image, they can contact neighborhood police patrol to trace the cars.

GeoVision License Plate Recognition System combines surveillance and information technology to create a high-tech system for law enforcement. It is a combination of technology and police resources to deal with the road security and crime issues. The system can raise police efficiency and provide useful evidence to investigators in case of any crime.
